Tanzania Zanzibar International Volunteer Association
TZIVA is a small volunteer organization providing technical, educational, and hands-on volunteer support to grassroots community projects on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania.
Our goal is to promote the culture and heritage of this beautiful country and to help our poorest residents develop the skills and resources they need to achieve a healthy lifestyle and sustainable livelihood.
We work primarily in Bububu, an underserved but vibrant beachside community located several kilometers outside Stonetown in Zanzibar.
We are a registered organization under the Societies Act No. 6 of 1995 Laws of Zanzibar, and has got a registration number 551 in the year 2007. Our services are available to all regardless of gender, age, tribe, ethnicity, disability or religion
Zanzibar Island. Located off Tanzania's east coast, Zanzibar is a unique place prized for its exquisite beaches, distinctive architecture, rich and ancient Swahili culture, Arab-African cuisine and the warmth and friendliness of its people.
Less well known is the fact that over half of Zanzibaris subsist on less than $1 US per day, malnutrition is common, literacy levels are less than 60% in certain areas, and many residents lack access to basic health care, safe water, and education.
